Course Overview

GCSE Art and Design is suitable for students willing to be creative with an interest in drawing and painting. Students will be exposed to a range of materials and techniques and learn about the work of artists through visits to galleries and study. Students are encouraged to be experimental, work from observation and imagination, and develop ideas from start to finish.

Art combines well with just about any subject. An extremely useful one to acquire is the discipline of independent study and thought. This is a subject that can give the student faith and a true sense of accomplishment. Students with a better grade at GCSE could continue their studies at A level, which may lead to a Foundation Course in Art or a degree in various areas of Art and Design, such as Architecture, Interior Design, Product Design, Fashion, Photography, Graphic Design and Fine Art, for example.
